We Spend N6bn Monthly On 200,000 N-Power Beneficiaries – FG
The scheme is one of the government’s social investment programmes at addressing unemployment among the country’s teeming youths.
The president’s Senior Special Assistant on Job Creation and Youth Employment, Afolabi Imoukhuede, disclosed this on Thursday in Abeokuta at a workshop for the beneficiaries of the programme in Ogun State.
He further said the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari would spend additional N18bn on 300,000 unemployed graduates that would be hired next month(May).
He said, “The current administration is committed to addressing the challenges of unemployment in the country.”
Imoukhuede who said a total of 5,799 beneficiaries were selected in Ogun State out of 13,866 graduates that applied for the scheme, added that the selection team encountered a lot of challenges during the process of selecting the beneficiaries.
He however said that some of the challenges which had to do with payment schedules, including discrepancies in account names and wrong bank verification number, would soon be sorted out.
He used the occasion to clear the air on the possibility of absorbing the N-Power beneficiaries into the civil service, adding that the scheme “was designed with exit permanence strategy.”
He urged the beneficiaries to be open to opportunities that would spur them to self-sufficiency in order to add value to the nation’s economic development.
The Focal Person for N-Power and the state Commissioner for Speçial Duties, Leke Adewolu, urged the volunteers to be good ambassadors of the state and seize the opportunities inherent in the scheme
