The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, Major Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, has condoled the people of Ogbomoso over the death of their monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba Jimoh Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III.
A statement issued on Saturday by NYSC Deputy Director (Press and Public Relations), Emeka Mgbemena, said its Director-General, Major Gen. Ibrahim, at the Soun’s palace on Saturday, commiserated with the entire town especially the immediate family on the death of the revered monarch.
He also prayed for the repose of his soul.
Ibrahim said, “On behalf of the NYSC family nationwide, please accept our heartfelt condolences.”
The NYSC had earlier written to the Oyo State Government, Minister of Youth and Sports Development and the deceased’s family to express condolences on the demise of the monarch.
In his response, the eldest son of the monarch, Dr Aderemi Oyewumi, commended the Director-General for creating time for the visit.
He lauded NYSC management for mentoring youths as models for good governance, describing the scheme as an agent of national unity.
He poured encomiums on the founding father of the NYSC, General Yakubu Gowon (retd.), for the establishment of the organisation which in 48 years has continued to promote national unity and integration.
On hand to receive the Director-General was a member of the NYSC National Governing Board, Prince Oyekunle Oyewumi, who is also a son of the deceased monarch, High Chief Samuel Sobalaje Otolorin, the Are-Ago of Ogbomosoland, High Chief Yusuf Kasali Oladipo, the Abese of Ogbomosoland among others.
